It’s been quite a summer and MPV-NY misses all of our friends. With the weather cooling down, let’s all get together and catch up! What better way to reconnect over delicious treats? We encourage everyone to bring snacks to share!
Inshallah (God willing), MPV-NY will be having our next service on September 20th from 1-3:30pm at MCCNY. It is open to all.
Metropolitan Community Church of New York
446 West 36th Street (btw 9th & 10th Ave)
New York, NY
Let’s share stories about our summer! We also plan to discuss our plans for the coming months and last month’s MPV National Retreat.
With the onset of recent events in the Middle East, popular discourse frequently imagines Islam as an inherently extremist political system. This context has given prominence to the complex category of the “moderate Muslim.” As a result, the “moderate” or “progressive” label is increasingly being used by those who find themselves as politicized subjects in a post-9/11 era and seek to deflect the suspicions and stereotypes projected onto them.
During the service, we’ll also discuss the various terms we ascribe to religiosity: moderate, fundamentalist, progressive, traditionalist; when and how they are deployed, and how we can navigate the dichotomy of “moderate” and “fundamentalist” in our everyday lives.
There will be an inclusive prayer to finish the service. Many of our members grab lunch as a group afterwards so feel free to join them, as well.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
